Biogas CO₂ Scrubber Cooling Solution

Project Background

In biogas upgrading systems, water scrubbers are widely used to remove CO₂ from raw biogas.
To ensure stable CO₂ absorption efficiency, the circulating water temperature must be
maintained at a low and constant level.

Process Cooling Requirement

  • Application: Biogas CO₂ removal using water scrubber
  • Circulating water volume: approx. 2,500 gallons
  • Required chilled water temperature: 6°C (continuous operation)
  • Maximum ambient temperature: up to 42°C
  • Operation mode: 24 hours × 7 days

Recommended Cooling Solution

A water-cooled screw chiller combined with a cooling tower is recommended for this application.
Compared with air-cooled systems, water-cooled chillers provide more stable capacity,
higher energy efficiency, and reliable performance under high ambient temperatures.

Anti-Corrosion Design Consideration

Biogas scrubber environments often contain high humidity, dissolved CO₂, and possible H₂S,
which may cause corrosion. Therefore, optional anti-corrosion designs can be applied,
including epoxy coating, stainless steel heat exchanger tubes, or process water isolation
via intermediate heat exchangers.
