Water Cooled Chillers

Air Cooled Chiller

There are different types of chiller AC systems to choose from, whether for home or industrial use. The types of chiller AC systems are as follows: central air conditioner, ductless, window, portable, hybrid, and geothermal systems.

What Is a Chiller AC System?

A chiller AC system is a large-scale cooling system used in commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, factories, and industrial facilities. Unlike a residential air conditioner that cools air directly, a chiller AC system cools water first — then circulates that chilled water through fan coil units or air handling units (AHUs) to cool the space.

Geson supplies chiller AC systems from 3RT to 4,500RT for HVAC and process cooling applications worldwide. CE and ISO 9001 certified. Factory-tested before delivery.

How a Chiller AC System Works

A chiller AC system operates in a closed loop. The chiller cools water to the setpoint temperature (typically 7°C). A pump circulates the chilled water through insulated pipes to fan coil units or air handling units throughout the building. Each unit draws warm air from the space across the chilled water coil, cooling and dehumidifying the air before returning it to the room. The water, now warmer, returns to the chiller to be cooled again.

In a water cooled chiller AC system, heat is rejected via a cooling tower. In an air cooled chiller AC system, heat is rejected directly to outdoor air via condenser fans — no cooling tower needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a chiller and an AC?

A regular AC unit uses direct expansion refrigerant to cool air in a small space. A chiller AC system cools water first, then distributes that chilled water through pipes to fan coil units or AHUs throughout a large building. Chillers are used for large-scale commercial and industrial cooling — typically from 50RT and above.

What types of chiller AC systems does Geson supply?

Geson supplies air cooled scroll chillers (3RT–100RT), air cooled screw chillers (50RT–630RT), water cooled scroll chillers (10RT–100RT), water cooled screw chillers (50RT–1,000RT), and centrifugal chillers (200RT–4,500RT).

Which is better — air cooled or water cooled chiller for HVAC?

Water cooled chillers are more energy efficient (20-30% better COP) and better suited for large buildings above 200RT or high-ambient climates. Air cooled chillers are simpler to install — no cooling tower required — and are preferred for smaller buildings or sites without a water source.

What refrigerants are used in chiller AC systems?

R407C and R134A are the most common for HVAC chillers. R410A is widely used in air cooled scroll chillers. R454B is recommended for new equipment under EPA AIM Act regulations. All Geson chillers ship with factory charge documentation.

What is the lead time for a Geson chiller AC system?

Standard configurations: 30 working days. Custom configurations or centrifugal chillers: 45–90 working days. Delivery by sea worldwide with wooden case packaging and transportation insurance.

Can Geson supply a complete HVAC chiller system?

Yes. Geson supplies complete systems including the chiller, chilled water pumps, cooling tower (for water cooled systems), fan coil units, AHUs, insulated piping, and integrated electrical control panel — factory-tested as a complete system before delivery.
